Time spent with content rose 10% over the past year, knowledge-oriented posts increased 24%, and people spent 18% more time reading comments. Marketing Solutions revenue grew 16%, while LinkedIn finished the financial year with $19.8 billion in revenue.

More people are publishing, companies are spending more and AI has made professional-looking content cheaper to produce. LinkedIn is now trying to separate the material people actually want to read from the volume surrounding it. Its feed is becoming more selective, automated engagement is being suppressed and generic AI output is less likely to travel far beyond the author’s immediate network.

For marketing teams, that changes the value of several familiar metrics at once. A company with 100’000 followers may still have a strong presence, but that number no longer tells you how many people will see the next post. A specialist with a much smaller network can travel beyond it when LinkedIn judges the subject to fit the people reading.

Reach is becoming more selective

LinkedIn’s current feed architecture looks at more than 1’000 previous interactions to build a picture of what someone is professionally interested in. Industry, skills, experience and geography sit alongside what people read, skip, comment on and return to.

A procurement manager who repeatedly reads about supplier risk may therefore see a specialist she has never followed. The same logic works in the opposite direction for companies that spent years building large follower bases: the platform has more freedom to decide that a particular post belongs elsewhere.

If follower count no longer predicts future reach as reliably as it once did, reporting needs another layer. The question is not only how many people saw the post, but who they were.

A post reaching 8’000 people from the right companies, roles and industries can be commercially stronger than one reaching 80’000 people with no connection to the market. That is less convenient than a single impression number, but it is closer to the way LinkedIn now distributes content.

AI solved the volume problem and created a quality problem

Generative AI made it possible for a marketing manager to turn one report into ten posts in an afternoon. Competitors gained exactly the same ability. The feed is now full of polished copy that often carries very little proprietary information. LinkedIn has started describing low-effort material as AI slop, and its early detection tests reportedly identify generic content with around 94% accuracy.

The pressure is not really on AI use itself. It is on content that could have come from almost any company. A manufacturer has production data competitors do not have. A recruiter knows why candidates are refusing offers. A consultant hears recurring objections from clients. A software company can see where users repeatedly struggle.

AI still has a role in each case, but further downstream. It can organise, shorten or adapt the material. The observation has to come from the business. This changes the editorial meeting more than the writing tool. Instead of asking what the company should post this week, marketing teams can start with what happened inside the business that someone outside it would want to know.

Comments are becoming part of the content

People spent 18% more time reading LinkedIn comments over the past year, while the platform has also become more aggressive about automated responses, engagement pods and comments posted at scale. The familiar “Great insight, completely agree” adds almost nothing when hundreds of accounts can generate it automatically. A comment from someone who has worked on the same problem can add a missing case, challenge the author or bring in a regulatory, commercial or technical consequence the original post did not cover.

For private users, that gives commenting more weight. A specialist who contributes regularly to discussions in a narrow field can become familiar to the right audience without publishing every day. Companies have often reduced employee advocacy to a different form of automation. Staff receive a corporate post and are asked to like it, share it or leave a prepared comment.

Once those patterns become obvious, they resemble exactly the type of manufactured engagement LinkedIn is trying to suppress. Marketing departments are better served by helping employees participate in conversations they already understand.

The strongest brand voice may belong to an employee

That employee voice is becoming more valuable because buyers often want to hear from people who know the subject before they hear another polished company statement.

A cybersecurity business may get more from its security lead explaining a vulnerability she has seen repeatedly than from a corporate post about cyber resilience. A private-equity firm may have a partner whose observations about investment committees say more than another broad market update.

The person does not have to become an influencer. In many B2B markets, a few thousand relevant followers are enough if they include buyers, peers, journalists, recruits and people from target companies.

Marketing’s role moves closer to editorial support. A team can identify the people who already encounter material worth publishing, interview them regularly and help turn those observations into posts without flattening the individual voice.

The company page still has clear jobs. Formal announcements, vacancies, events, product releases and paid campaigns need an institutional home. The page does not need to carry every conversation around the brand.

Video works when the subject needs to be seen

Those employee voices do not always need to appear as text. Paid video grew by almost 30% year on year earlier in 2026, and LinkedIn continues to give video more space.

The increase has encouraged companies to film material that would previously have been written as a post.

Sometimes the format adds something. A product demonstration has a reason to be video. So does an architect walking through a project, an engineer explaining a component beside the machine it belongs to or a CEO answering one narrow question.

A person reading three generic management lessons into a camera adds very little.

Marketing teams can therefore judge video by the subject rather than by the current platform push. If something benefits from being seen or heard, film it. If the idea works better in three sentences, write three sentences.

Newsletters work when there is a reason to return

The same discipline applies to newsletters because LinkedIn newsletters have moved beyond the novelty phase, and the ones still worth subscribing to usually have a subject that naturally continues over time. A Swiss employment lawyer writing about legal changes each month has one. A company following a specialised market can build an archive around developments its clients need to understand.

A newsletter called Leadership Insights has to invent its reason to exist again with every edition. The audience still remains inside LinkedIn, which matters for businesses using newsletters as part of a wider publishing strategy. A subscriber on LinkedIn is not the same as an email address the company owns.

That is why the strongest setup usually connects LinkedIn to the company website and email database instead of replacing them. LinkedIn can bring discovery and professional distribution; owned channels keep the relationship beyond the platform.

Trust is moving onto the profile itself

That question of ownership leads into another one: what happens when people discover the author or company through LinkedIn and want to judge whether the expertise is real?

More than 100 million LinkedIn members have added at least one verification to their profiles. Identity and workplace verification came first, and the platform is moving further towards signals that show professional activity rather than simply polished self-description.

The timing is obvious. AI can improve almost any About section, CV paragraph or application. A claim such as “experienced AI professional” costs very little to produce.

Projects, verified employment, recommendations and visible work give recruiters and clients something more concrete to examine.

For private users, that moves attention away from adjectives and towards evidence. Show projects where confidentiality allows it, keep work history accurate and publish material that reflects the work you actually do.

Hiring is becoming more automated on both sides

Recruiters at more than 20’000 companies are using LinkedIn’s AI-powered hiring products, while enterprise seats across those products increased 140% in the latest quarter.

Candidates have their own tools. They can rewrite applications against a vacancy, improve profile text and search for roles through conversational queries.

The result is more polished applications without necessarily better candidates.

A hiring manager faced with 200 competent-looking applications needs stronger signals than writing quality. Recommendations, verified details, projects, professional relationships and a visible history of discussing the work become harder to fake than a cover letter.

For candidates, that gives LinkedIn value long before a job search begins. Someone who opens the platform only after receiving a redundancy notice has to rebuild relationships and visibility at exactly the moment they need both.

Private users need a clearer professional signal

A strong LinkedIn profile in 2026 should make three things easy to understand: what you do, what you know and where the evidence is.

That does not require a rigid personal brand or constant publishing. A CFO can write about technology or hiring as well as finance. An architect can discuss running a studio as well as buildings. The connection comes from the work, not from a pre-designed list of content pillars.

Write when you have something specific. Comment when you can add something. Keep professional relationships alive after changing jobs. Use AI to organise or improve the material rather than manufacture an opinion you never had.

A smaller body of credible activity is more valuable than months of generic posting.

Businesses need to rethink what they measure

Companies face the same pressure from the other side. If the strongest content increasingly comes through specialists, employees and targeted distribution, a monthly report built around impressions and follower growth starts to miss too much.

Audience quality belongs in the picture. Look at which companies engaged, who visited employee profiles, whether target accounts appear repeatedly around the content and whether sales teams recognise names that first appeared on LinkedIn.

A post does not need to create a lead by itself. In B2B, repeated visibility over several months often matters more than one spike in reach. The company page still matters, but it is one part of the system rather than the whole system.

What is gaining ground

LinkedIn’s current changes favour people with information that comes from doing the work. Specialists benefit because the feed can find audiences outside their immediate networks. Employees with recognised expertise give brands a human voice. B2B creators now have a commercial market that LinkedIn itself is building products around.

Small companies have an opening as well. They may not match a multinational’s media budget, but a founder or specialist can still become familiar to a narrow group of decision-makers without a large production operation. AI can help all of them by reducing the time spent cleaning drafts, repurposing research or preparing versions for another market. The part it cannot supply is the reason the post exists in the first place.

What is losing ground

Engagement pods and automated comments are being actively targeted. Generic AI posts face algorithmic pressure and an audience that has learned to recognise them. Large follower counts still carry weight, but less certainty.

Posting frequency has lost some of its old logic too. Five weak posts do not become a strategy because they fill the working week. If LinkedIn is getting better at matching content to professional interests, every generic post gives the platform another signal that people do not need to see more.

Before publishing the next one, ask whether a competitor could post exactly the same thing without changing a word. If the answer is yes, there is probably better material somewhere inside the business.

Key changes and strategies for Linkedin in
